Agreed – I can understand that a roommate might have issues with things that hamper their ability to live there comfortably, but the entertainment system and the “eat at the trable” rule thing are more than a bit daft.

I say just act as you normally would, and if they have issues with that, then have a discussion about it. But always remain firm in what you believe to be reasonable.

Exactly what Pixie said. It’s your home, and you let this other person in. If that person doesn’t like the way things are done at YOUR home, then he can find somewhere else to live. You shouldn’t have to change your whole world around just for this one person.

Oh jeez, you need to nip that in the bud right away – not your behaviour, it’s by no means irrational – but the fact that you’re in your house, on your territory, in your personal space, where someone else has kindly been granted access and allowed to stay, and you’re having to abide by rules that aren’t your own? Screw that. There’s a balance there of the kind that isn’t, heh. You have every right to say ‘You know what? I don’t feel like eating at the table tonight so you’ll have to excuse me.’ – and if that isn’t acceptable to everyone else, then it’s not YOU who has to change. Being considerate and welcoming is one thing – completely relinquishing your own space, your territory, without compromise because someone who is essentially a guest in your home is demanding it of you, is quite another.

Remember that YOU are the host, that it is first and foremost YOUR home and that any guest into your house, even paying housemates, have to respect the fact that they are entering into YOUR territory.

You might be thinking of the collections agency..lol. That job I was surprised to make it out of there not hurting someone and not pregnant. My new job..as much as I like it I’m almost starting to regret it. I’m getting nowhere near the hours I was promised and when I go in today my boss and I have to have a talk otherwise I’m going to have to quit. *sigh* at least the collections agency was stable.
